Sensory Learning Styles: How Does Your Kid Learn Best?

sensory photo

It’s no secret at this point that one size does not fit all when it comes to education. Kids have different sensory learning styles, and these affect how they pick up information, what environment helps them focus best, and what challenges you’re likely to run into while trying to get them to learn.

Visual learners are the kids who love charts and graphs but can’t stand to listen to a verbal explanation. These kids need to see what they’re learning in front of them, so extra pictures and videos will be helpful.

Auditory learners pick up things by listening. These kids will sit for hours listening to music and can pick up an entire set of instructions simply by listening. Let them listen to background music while studying and you’ll see an improvement.

Kinesthetic learners have to touch and move in order to learn. While you don’t need to pick up interpretive dance, teach them to write things out or do something creative with their hands in order to learn.

Figure out what kind of sensory learning styles appeal to your kids and play with them. You’ll see a huge difference.

Sensory Learning Activity

sensory photoSensory activities are a good avenue for learning for children as they learn best through hands on experience. Learning and retention of information improves depending on the number of their senses are engaged. The use of sensory materials helps alot in their learning, e.g. the use of containers of different sizes in sand can help them develop skills in math such as counting and size. Concepts in science such as gravity and cause and effect are also explored.
Sensory activities also provide children ability to control what they do and experience. This encourages them in their decision-making skills, making them more confident in expressing their ideas. They also get to practice and reinforce their motor skills through working with the materials by pouring, stirring and manipulating them.
The important part is how the child uses the material than what he or she makes out of them. These creative thinking skills build their self-esteem.

Sensory Learning

sensory photoAs parents we must understand that our children are now living in an environment of fractured sensory inputs. As a parent you might have been already told that your child is a sensory learner. Kids who are referred to as sensory learners, as a parent there is need to improve the use of definite education as well as reprimands, at the same time customizing your lifestyle in the area your kid responds to well. These learners are classified into three classes. Parents who have these types of children should first determine which class their children fall into. These classes include over responsiveness to senses, non- responsiveness and a combination of the two. As a parent once you have done this then you can change your parenting style as well as academic coaching to get helpful results.

The non-responsive learners are the most difficult to treat mainly because they normally are not attentive and are not excited by any sense or experience. Most of these kids are usually passive and quiet. This may hinder them from participating in various activities in school. On the other hand over- responsive cases your child will be unfocused, difficult to coach as well as manage. For children who have a combination of these two aspects, need an environment that balances the characteristics. Parents should find an environment that best suits this key.

Kids Furniture

written by: Eric Hodecker

Family is a wonderful thing. So much so, often times we find ourselves caught up in the grand gestures, and forget some of the finer points that really make an impact on our children.

Holidays like Thanksgiving are typically the only times we take notice of children’s ability to navigate furniture. They are provided with full family support, and it’s all inclusive. Small table, small chairs, big desserts. This is a great example of when we treat our children like little adults.

Kid’s furniture can be a wonderfully fun project for the whole family. It certainly doesn’t require an extreme makeover, just a hint of effort to help children become accustomed to the subtleties of navigating home furnishings.

A little chair with matching table, maybe even a lamp and end table. No need to go crazy. Family support starts with steps that often go unnoticed. Your children will notice however.

Love from London and Paris

paris photoTips To Make Your Furniture Purchase Easy

I have just been to London and Paris on a furniture buying trip and thought of some ideas to help you on your next buying trip.  When you need furniture, you can’t wait for family to give you theirs! You have to go out and shop, and this article will show you how to do it right.

When you see something you like, wait to buy it for at least 24 hours. If it’s not the last item in stock, you have the time. You need to go home and see if the piece you’re considering would work in your space, and whether you really want to spend the money. Waiting will help.

When purchasing a new bed, make sure you lay down on it to find the perfect comfort level for you. Many times people who choose pillowtop mattresses find that the mattress is too soft once they get it home. To help you avoid this, lay down in the bed in the position that you sleep in to ensure it suits your comfort levels.

Before making a furniture purchase, make sure it will fit the way you want it to. For example, you may really like a couch, but it may not work in your living room. You should make sure you know the measurements of the couch and the measurements of your living room.

Watch out for furniture that is poorly made. To ensure that you are purchasing a sofa that will withstand the punishment your family can do to your sofa turn the sofa upside down and look at the structure of the sofa. Poorly made furniture will be made using 1×1’s instead of 2×2.

Don’t be afraid to haggle. In this way, furniture is like a car. There’s typically a lot of mark up in that price. You can normally get anywhere from 10% up to 20% off when you are a confident haggler. You may feel a little weird doing it, but it could save you hundreds of dollars.

Match your room’s color palette by bringing color samples with you. Without this color matching, the piece you like may not look right with your other furniture. Prevent this from happening. Get a paint swatch at the hardware store or use a photo to match colors.

Are you interested in buying a leather couch? Make sure you purchase furniture that is actually made out of leather. If the salesperson described it as a leather-like or a leather match piece, then the sofa or the chair is not made from actual leather and might not last very long.

Try to buy sets. This works really well, so that your furniture pieces match each other. More than that, sets can sometimes be more affordable than if you purchased the pieces individually. Living room sets are the most prevalent, and can often offer great value and style for your house.

If you are purchasing a couch, make sure that it is comfortable. Sit down on the couch, lay down on the couch and curl up on the couch for at least five minutes to make sure that it is comfortable to you. There is nothing worse than buying a new living room suite only to get it home and realize that you don’t find it comfortable.

Kids furniture can be tough, but there a couple of items like a Birch Wood Modern Kids Train Table, that you should go ahead and splurge on because they will get the use out of it.

Even though couch and chairs are beautiful, this is not the best color choice. In spite of carefully covering your furniture, it will show soil after a time. Fabric furniture can be cleaned, but the process can be expensive. A better choice is a neutral color that you can accessorize with pops of color.

Do you know anybody who is moving? Try asking if they’re leaving furniture pieces behind. If so, you may be able to purchase their furniture at an extremely low price. Sometimes, they may even be willing to give their pieces away for free!

It may be hard to find just the right piece of high quality furniture new. Sometimes it is better to purchase a gently used item and then recover, paint or stain it as you see fit. If you are able to find great deals on these used pieces, you can pay a bit to fix them up and still pay much less than for new pieces.

While you may get some priceless antiques from Grandma, today you need comfortable, durable pieces to get you through. That means investing in high quality pieces without breaking the bank. This article has given you the tips you need to shop smarter, so today is the day to venture out and do so.

One of the hardest parts about parenting is allowing children the
